Do U Know tech tip: Microsoft 365 apps

You can access all the Microsoft 365 apps that the U of I provides with a few clicks. Go to office.uidaho.edu and log in with your U of I credentials. Click the app Launcher button (the “waffle button”) in the upper left corner and select “More apps.” You will discover a new world of tools available for you to explore.

 

Do U Know tech tip: Getting a QR code

You can quickly generate a QR code for a website. On Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome, right-click on the webpage and select “Create QR code for this page.” You can download and use the QR code as needed.

Do-U-Know Tech Tip: Microsoft Office Desktop version versus the web version

You can collaborate on an Office 365 web app, such as a Word document, but some features may not be available in the web version. To access more functions while still collaborating, you can open the document in the desktop version. To do this, click on “File” in the upper left corner, select “Info,” and then choose “Open in Desktop.” 

 

Do-U-Know Tech Tip: Touch Panel Clock

You could do more with the classroom’s lectern touch panel than turn the classroom’s system on and off. There is a feature that allows access to a larger and more readable clock face. Do-U-Know tech tip: Chime

Did you know you can turn the chime on and off during a Zoom meeting?

  1. Click the Participant button at the bottom.
  2. Then click the three dots at the bottom of the pop-out participant window.
  3. Uncheck the “Play sound when someone joins or leaves” option. 

 

Do-U-Know tech tip: Zoom webcam

Did you know the webcam video direction can be rotated in Zoom? Begin by opening the Zoom Workplace application, click “Settings” (the gear icon) in the upper right corner, then select “Video.” The rotation icon is in the upper right corner of the video preview. View a step-by-step guide with photos.

 

Do-U-Know Tech Tip: Activating a Zoom account

All U of I employees and students must sign in to Zoom with U of I credentials to activate their accounts. Sign in via the Zoom workplace application or web portal. Review the support article for detailed instructions.

 

Do-U-Know Tech Tip: Zoom cloud recording retention 

Zoom meeting recordings are stored in the Zoom cloud by default. They are moved to the trash and eventually deleted after 180 days. Be sure to download recordings you want to keep as a backup. Learn more about Zoom cloud video retention policy.

 

Do-U-Know Tech Tip: How to record only shared screens 

Zoom settings can be adjusted to record the active speaker, gallery view and shared screen separately. Follow these steps: 1) Log on to zoom.uidaho.edu with U of I credentials. 2) On the left side menu, select settings. 3) At the top, select recording. 4) Under Cloud recording settings, select “Record active speaker, gallery view and shared screen separately.” Read the Knowledge Base article for more details.
