How to reset my password at the Windows 11 sign in screen?

Overview

Windows 11 devices that are joined to Azure Active Directory (AAD) may allow you to reset your account password before signing in.

 

Resetting Your Password

Step 1

Power on your Windows 11 AAD-joined device, and enter or select your user name in email format (username@uidaho.edu). Do not enter a password.

Step 2

Click on "Reset password". If this does not appear for you, contact your OIT technical support team for assistance.

Step 3

Confirm or enter your email address in the "Microsoft account" window, then click "Next".

Step 4

Select a method to verify that this is your account.
If you have not provided your information for Self Service Password Reset, you may not see this option.

Choose from your contact methods. You will need to select two.

For "Text" or "Call my mobile phone", you will need to select the number from your contact methods and type it in.

Step 5

Enter your new password twice, and hit "Next".
The new password must conform to password complexity standards. More information on passwords can be found in How do I change my account password?.

Step 6

Select a contact method for Multi-factor authentication (MFA), and click "Next". 
Available authentication methods are:

  • Mobile app notification
  • Mobile app code
  • Email
  • Mobile phone
  • Office phone

You will know your password has successfully been reset when you see "Your password has been reset".

 

Step 7

Sign into your AAD-joined Windows 11 device with your new password.
