How do I set up my Outlook in Android?

Overview

This article explains how to set up Outlook on Android based devices. The University of Idaho runs on the Office 365 Exchange platform. Therefore, ITS supports the use of the Microsoft Outlook app available for Android tablets and phones.

Installation

Go to the app store, or "Google Play" on most Android devices. Search for "Microsoft Outlook", download and install the application.

Account Setup

After finishing the installation of Outlook on your Android device, follow these steps to setup your Vandal or Staff account on the Outlook app.

 

1  Select Get Started

Open the application once it is installed. Select "Get Started" on the opening screen to add your UI email account.

  2 Enter full email address

Type your full Vandal email address and select "Continue". Outlook should automatically detect your account as an Office 365 Exchange account and redirect you to the UI login page.

3 Sign in with password

Type in your Vandal email's password, and re-enter your full Vandal email address if not auto filled, then select "Sign In".

4 Authenticate with Duo

You will be prompted will the Duo authentication page to confirm your identity. From the options, select the option that pertains to you, most often this is the Duo push. If you experience any issues with Duo authenticator, send a ticket or call the IT support at (208)-885-4357.

You can select to have a duo push sent to the duo app, receive a call, or enter a password.

 

5 Additional Accounts

Note: This is an optional choice. If you do not want additional accounts added, please skip this step by selecting "MAYBE LATER".

Once you are logged in, Outlook will ask if you would like to add additional accounts. If you have multiple Outlook accounts or another UI account you would like to add, follow steps 1-4 above after tapping "Let’s do it!". When you are done adding your accounts, select "MAYBE LATER" to proceed.

Once you are done adding your accounts, or only have the one to add, select Maybe Later to proceed.

 

6 Walk through initial tour

If this is the first time you have used Outlook on this device, it may take you through a short tour of the Outlook app features. These include the "Focused Inbox," "Calendar," and "Attach Files" features available through their interface. 

  • Press the arrow icon on the bottom-right to move through the tour.

  • Tap the check mark at the bottom right to end the tour and continue to your mailbox.

  • You can also skip this tour by selecting skip at the bottom-left of the screen.

 7View your Inbox

Once you are in the "Inbox" view, you can see your emails, as well as icons on the bottom of the screen that lead to other features. From left to right, these icons represent your inbox, calendar, documents and contacts. The icon that is blue, and not grey, is the feature you are currently viewing.
