How to find the name of a Windows computer?

Overview

Your computer's name or "hostname" is sometimes required when requesting various services. This article provides instructions to retrieve your device's hostname on a Windows device.

Windows 11

Step 1

Right-Click the start menu icon and press the "System" option

Step 2

In the System > About page at the top of the Device Specikfications will be your device name.

Windows 10

Step 1

Open the Control Panel. One way is to click the Windows Start button, type Control Panel in the search box, and click the "Control Panel" program when it displays in the results.

Step 2

Control Panel opens. If your view is set to large or small icons, find and click 'System' in the list of options.

Or, if your control panel view is set to category, click "System and Security".

Then, under the "System" header click "See the name of this computer"

Step 3

The window that appears displays information about your computer. The computer's name is listed in the middle of the page.
