Overview
To maintain the highest level of security and compatibility, Duo periodically updates its mobile application. Starting February 2, 2026, Duo will no longer support versions of the Duo Mobile app prior to version 4.85.0 because they lack current encryption certificates. Users running outdated versions must upgrade to the latest release to continue using Duo for multi-factor authentication (MFA). Failure to update may result in authentication issues, including not receiving push notifications, and inability to access protected resources except by entering a code from the application.
During the sign-in process, if you are using a version prior to 4.85.0, you will see an "Update Recommended" dialog. It will look similar to this:

Users who have used a mobile device in the past 30 days, which have been identified as using a version prior to 4.85.0, will receive an email communication recommending they upgrade the client software. This may require updating your phone operating system.
If you see this warning, check your device for the current version of Duo Mobile. If your app is outdated, visit the Apple App Store (for iOS devices) or Google Play Store (for Android devices) and download the latest version. Ensure your device meets the minimum OS requirements: iOS 14 or later and Android 10 or later. If your device cannot support these versions, you may need to upgrade your device to continue using Duo.
Upgrading ensures that you benefit from the latest security enhancements, bug fixes, and improved user experience. Older versions may lack critical security patches, leaving your account vulnerable. Duo’s updated app also includes performance improvements and compatibility with newer operating systems, ensuring a seamless MFA process.
