How to transfer ownership of a Mailman list?

Overview

Mailman lists "ownership", or admin access, is controlled by a single master list password. These are the steps to transfer ownership to a new list admin.

 

Transfer Ownership

Step 1. Share the list admin password with the new list administrator.

Step 2. The new list admin will visit the list admin interface at https://lists.uidaho.edu/mailman/admin/<listname> and sign-in with the current password.

Step 3. The new list admin will change the list password to another value. This will block access for the old admin. The moderator password may need to be changed as well.

Step 4. Go to "General Options" and change the owner email addresses content.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on "Submit Your Changes".

The "owner" is now updated.
