How to resolve OneDrive access denied errors?

Overview

OneDrive owner permissions may occasionally need to be reset. The OneDrive site owner will attempt to sign-in and see error messages. This commonly occurs if an account is deleted and recreated.

 

Error Messages

The error messages are typically related to "You don't have access" and may vary depending on client application and version. Here are some standard client errors.

 

OneDrive Sync Desktop Client

There was a problem connecting to OneDrive
You don't have access to this service. For help, contact your IT department. (Error Code: 0x8004e4d0)

OneDrive Web Client

Access Denied
username@uidaho.edu does not have permissions to access this resource.
Here are a few ideas:
->  Please ask the site admin to give you access.
-> If you have a different account, try signing in with that account.

If this problem persists, contact your support team and include these technical details:

Resolution

This issue must be addressed by a SharePoint Online Administrator. Submit a ticket and include a screenshot of the error message associated with the access error. Include the web site address in the screenshot as well.

The administrator will remove and re-add the OneDrive site "Owner" to correct this issue.
