How to resolve error "Something went wrong" when activating Microsoft Office?

Overview

Microsoft Office requires activation through your University of Idaho account before it can be used. During this process you may see this error message:

Something went wrong
Your account was not set up on this device because device management could not be enabled. This device might not be able to access some resources, such as Wi-Fi, VPN, or email.

Resolution

This message is due to a restriction blocking personal devices from registering with University of Idaho Microsoft 365 services. This message is informational and DOES NOT mean Microsoft Office was not activated. To avoid this message in the future, uncheck "Allow my organization to manage my device" during Microsoft Office activation.
