This page details several of LawTech's policies for specific service requests. Please familiarize yourself with these policies before submitting a request. They outline the proper procedure, timeline, and details for each type of request. In each section, you will also find a link to the official request form for that type of request. LawTech Support Policy

LawTech offers classroom and technology support for College of Law events only. For non-College of Law events, you must contact Event Services by emailing events@uidaho.edu or calling 208-885-6956.

Due to technical and security limitations, LawTech cannot set up events for anyone. Event organizers must have a representative present in each location (Moscow and/or Boise law building) for event setup. The representative will be responsible for setup, logging in to any systems that require it, and managing the event once setup is complete. LawTech can be on hand to assist, answer questions, or troubleshoot any problems that arise. We will review all requests for technical support and respond with our availability.

Video Conference Classroom Guide

For all video conference events and meetings, a Zoom link is required. All faculty, staff, and students at the U of I have access to a free Zoom Pro account. Event organizers will need to schedule Zoom meetings prior to their events. To set up your account and schedule meetings, go to the Uidaho Zoom page and sign in with your U of I account. Additional information on scheduling and managing Zoom meetings can be found on our Zoom Information page.

Events open to the public or involving a large number of attendees must be scheduled as a Zoom Webinar. Faculty and Staff at the university have access to Zoom Webinar licenses for scheduling webinar events.

If you would like LawTech to be present during event setup, you must contact LawTech prior to the event. LawTech will need to review the request and ensure that the needs of your event and capabilities of the rooms you have booked are compatible and that staffing is available. Deadlines for support requests are as follows:

  • 48 hours prior to the event for events happening during business hours. (8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday)
  • 7 days prior to the event for events happening after hours.
  • 14 days prior to the event for events happening on weekends.

Requests made after the deadlines listed above will not be supported unless staffing is already available.

Loaner Laptop Policy

LawTech has several loaner laptops available for emergency use during exams. These laptops are for in-person Examplify exams only, and not checked out for daily use or for use with remote exams, take-home exams, or Canvas exams. These laptops can be reserved for exams on a first-come-first-served basis. Loaner laptops are also still subject to the College of Law exam laptop rules (Student Agreement for Final Exams) and you will not receive any time extensions or other exceptions if any computer issues occur.

To receive a loaner laptop you must contact LawTech a minimum of two business days prior to your exam with a verified need for a loaner. Any request for a loaner laptop will need to be verified by LawTech. Due to the limited number of loaners, no loaner requests will be confirmed until LawTech has had a chance to look at the requester's computer and attempt to resolve any issues. If the issues can be resolved a loaner will not be issued. If LawTech is not able to resolve the issues on the requester's computer, the issue will be verified and a loaner laptop request will be confirmed. LawTech will need a minimum of two business day to prepare a computer for use. 

Legitimate loaner laptop needs include but are not limited to;

  • Inability to run Examplify
  • Failure to meet minimum computer requirements
  • Lack of access to a laptop

Loaner laptops can be picked from LawTech 30 minutes before the exam begins, and must be returned to LawTech at the end of the exam.

Please be aware, these laptops are provided on a first-come-first-served basis as a convenience from our available stock of excess computers. There are a limited number of these computers and they require time for LawTech to set up. Loaner laptops are not guaranteed for anyone who requests one even with a verified or legitimate request, and it is the students responsibility to find a solution for their exam or to handwrite if a loaner laptop is not available.

Equipment Policy for Volunteer Remote Workers

In instances where an employee receives permission to work remotely for an extended period of time, the following rules apply.

  1. Arrangements
    1. All correspondence between LawTech and the remote employee needs to be in email form. Remote employees need to acknowledge the terms of this policy as part of their remote work agreement.
    2. All loaned property must be recorded by model, serial number, and property tag and itemized in the acknowledgement.
  2. Equipment
    1. The remote employee will be provided a standard laptop to complete U of I work. No other equipment will be provided for off-site/remote work.
    2. Employees working remotely are responsible for maintaining equipment in the same manner as an on-site employee.
    3. All loaned equipment must be returned to the college when the employee’s affiliation ends.
  3. Shipping
    1. If an employee is starting their position in a remote capacity, necessary equipment will be shipped to them via FedEx at the college's expense. Employees transitioning to remote work from in-person work will simply take their existing computer or receive one from LawTech before beginning remote work.
    2. After the initial deployment, all shipping of equipment, including cost, will be the responsibility of the remote employee.
