Why This Policy Exists

Personal networking devices can:

  • Interfere with the university-managed Wi-Fi network, reducing performance for others.

  • Pose security risks by creating unauthorized access points.

  • Complicate network troubleshooting and management.

  • Conflict with university policies on network monitoring and control.

The university provides secure and high-speed wireless and wired connectivity in all residence halls, academic buildings, and administrative spaces. Our IT teams continually monitor and maintain this infrastructure to ensure reliable service.

What Is Allowed

  • Personal computers, smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, and gaming consoles are permitted.

  • Devices should be connected to the campus network via the appropriate wireless or wired access points provided by the university.

If you're experiencing poor connectivity, please contact IT Services—we're here to help resolve any issues without the use of unsupported equipment.

Need More Flexibility for Research or Lab Use?

If you are a research student, faculty, or staff member and believe you have a legitimate need for a personal networking device in a controlled environment (e.g., for a research lab), please submit an IT support ticket to discuss your specific use case with our network team.
