Overview

The technologies in these classrooms include a control panel at the lectern that enables sharing the PC, document camera, or another connected device to large displays. This system also includes an auto-tracking camera, a front facing camera, ceiling microphones, and lavalier microphone. The lavalier microphone is kept in the front office. A notable difference with this touch panel is that the Shutdown button WILL NOT log you out of the computer. Please refer to Shutting Down the System for proper instructions on turning everything off.

System Modes

After touching the touch panel to start the system, you will be prompted to Select a System Mode: Presentation or Video Conference

Presentation Mode

Tap Presentation mode for in-person only classes/presentations. DO NOT use this mode if you are connecting to others at a distance via Zoom or Teams. In presentation mode, you can select PC, HDMI, or Doc cam as your sources to share with the room. This is a photo of the touch pad in presentation mode.

Video Conference Mode

Tap Video Conference mode if you are connecting with others at a distance via Zoom or Teams and you want to have different content on the two displays at the front of the room. In this mode, you will automatically be using the PC, so it will not appear as a source to select. Note that if you select HDMI or Doc cam, they will only appear on the lectern display. For students in the room and at a distance to see these sources, you will need to use the Share button in Zoom to share your screen. This is a photo of the touch pad in video conference mode.

If you select HDMI, click the Share Screen button in Zoom and select the screen that displays your connected external device. Then click Share.

If you select Doc cam,

  1. click the Share Screen button in Zoom
  2. click Advanced
  3. click Content from 2nd Camera
  4. Click Share This image shows how to use a second camera in zoom.
  5. You can then use the Switch Camera button in the upper left corner of your screen to switch between the doc cam and rear camera

Video Conference with Dual Presentation Mode

Tap Video Conference with Dual Presentation mode if you are connecting with others at a distance via Zoom or Teams and you want to have the same content on the two displays at the front of the room. See Video Conference mode instructions above as other functionality is the same.

Displays

Tap the Displays button to control the displays you want to use: Front Left, Front Right, Side Left, and Side Right displays. All displays will automatically turn on with the system, but you can select to turn displays off. This is a picture of the displays control menu.

Camera Control

Tap the Cameras button to access both the front and rear camera controls. You can also tap Camera Front or Camera Rear from the Video Conference modes. This is a picture of the camera control menu.

Auto-tracking Camera

The rear camera has auto tracking ability to follow the instructor throughout a lecture. To use the camera, you first need to open Zoom and turn the camera on in the Zoom toolbar. The camera is programmed to focus on the person standing behind the lectern and then follow that person's movements throughout the room. This works very well with an active instructor who moves around, perhaps checking on students or pointing out things on the projection screen. If the camera does not appear to be auto-tracking,

  1. Tap the Cameras button on the touch panel
  2. Tap Camera Rear (turns green when on)
  3. Tap Auto Tracking (turns green when on) This image shows how to select auto tracking.
  4. The camera will then focus on you behind the lectern, and you can begin to move around to be sure it is working properly

Using the Cameras Manually

You can also use camera presets or control buttons on the touch panel if you want to focus on certain parts of the room.

  1. For the rear camera, tap Auto tracking to turn it off (turns gray when off) or tap Camera Front to switch to the front camera. The front camera does not have auto tracking. The button is green for the camera that is selected.
  2. Use the presets on the right to see what shots are already programmed into the camera
  3. Use the arrows and zoom in/out controls to adjust the camera shot This image demonstrates how to use a camera manually.

Microphones

This room includes ceiling microphones, two lavalier mics, and two handheld mics. Though the ceiling microphones work fine, we suggest the use of the lavalier and handheld mics for voice reinforcement or when using Zoom.

Ceiling Microphone

The benefit of the ceiling microphone in this classrooms is that the speaker can be heard from anywhere in the room in Zoom. This enables the instructor to easily walk around the room without needing a lapel mic and makes it possible for students at a distance to hear students in the room when they are speaking as well. You will want to check that the ceiling microphone is selected in Zoom by using the up arrow next to Microphone Mute/Unmute button and clicking on Echo Cancelling Speakerphone (Zoom_Content Speakerphone).

This picture demonstrates how to activate ceiling microphones.

Lavalier Microphone

This room is equipped with one lavalier microphone which can be borrowed from the front office. Please remember to turn off the mic after using and return it to the front office.

Classroom Help

Requesting Help via Ticket

If you are in a room that does not have a touch panel with an eHelp button you can log into the computer and click on the Classroom eHelp shortcut (with the big yellow question mark) on the desktop. This will present you with a form to request help in the classroom. If you find yourself here after searching for a way to get help in your classroom you can press the button below to access the form. You can also request help through this link here: Request classroom technology help.

Note: if the computer does not have the eHelp shortcut then it has not been designated for immediate response and, most likely, provided by the department not .

This image shows where the classroom e help app is.

Help via Phone

Finally you can request classroom assistance by calling 208-885-0570. Note that this method is generally the least effective method of contacting a TSP for help. It is recommended to use one of the two methods above, if possible.
