Why Set a Default Browser?

Your default browser opens whenever you click a web link (e.g., from an email or document). Setting your preferred browser (like Chrome, Firefox, Edge, or Safari) ensures a consistent experience across apps.

Windows (10 and 11)

Open Settings (Press Windows + I)

Click Apps > Default apps

Scroll to Web browser

Click the current browser listed (e.g., Microsoft Edge)

Select your preferred browser (e.g., Chrome or Firefox) from the list

If prompted, choose "Switch anyway" to confirm your choice.

macOS (Monterey and later)

Open System Settings (or System Preferences on older versions)

Go to Desktop & Dock (or General)

Find Default web browser

Select your preferred browser from the dropdown list

You may need admin permissions to install or select certain browsers.

Linux (Ubuntu-based)

GNOME (e.g., Ubuntu)

Open Settings

Go to Default Applications

Choose your browser under Web

Terminal Method

Type the following command into the Terminal

xdg-settings set default-web-browser firefox.desktop
