Overview
OneDrive site owner permissions can sometimes get out of sync, causing the site owner to see an access error when they try to sign in. This most commonly happens after an account is deleted and recreated. In most cases, the site owner can fix this themselves in under a minute — no ticket required.
If you are the owner of the OneDrive site, you can resolve this issue directly — no need to submit a ticket or wait on IT.
- Go to your OneDrive site's permissions page:
https://<yoursite>-my.sharepoint.com/personal/<youraccount>_uidaho_edu/_layouts/15/people.aspx?MembershipGroupId=0
- For example: https://vandalsuidaho-my.sharepoint.com/personal/jvandal_uidaho_edu/_layouts/15/people.aspx?MembershipGroupId=0
- Find the affected user in the list and delete them.
- Re-share the OneDrive file(s) with that user to restore their access.
This removes and re-adds the broken permission entry, which clears the error. Most site owners can complete this without any additional help.
If you try this and the issue persists, contact the Service Desk and a SharePoint Online administrator will assist — see If You're Not the Site Owner below.
Error messages related to this issue typically reference "You don't have access" or "Access Denied," and the exact wording varies by client application and version. Common examples are shown below.
