How to upload ZOOM Recording to CANVAS using Panopto

Why upload ZOOM to Panopto?

It's possible to simply add a link to your ZOOM recording in your CANVAS course, however, if you're using the UIDAHO instance of Zoom it may require UIdaho authentication to view the recording. In the case of some Keep Learning courses, the students may not have this type of access. Below is the process for downloading the video, then uploading to Panopto inside your Keep Learning course.

Record Video in ZOOM

First, ensure that you have recorded your session in Zoom (see ZOOM help on recording).

  1. Click More at the bottom of Zoom
  2. Click Record
  3. Select the Cloud or Computer recording destination
  4. Proceed with your meet.

Click Zoom More then Record to choose record option

Download Video

  1. ZOOM will email you a shareable ZOOM recording link when the recording is ready.
  2. Click the ZOOM Share link in the email to open the video

  3. Click the Download (3 files) link in the upper right corner
  4. It allows you to download three file types:
    • VTT = chat transcript
    • M4A = audio recording
    • MP4 = video recording <<< Click MP4 to download the video

Upload Video in CANVAS / Panopto

  1. Login to Keep Learning CANVAS: https://keeplearninguidaho.instructure.com/
  2. Click on your course
  3. Go to Modules
  4. Click on the page you want to add the recording to, or create a page if one doesn't exist.
  5. Click Edit in the upper left corner of the page.

  6. Please your cursor where you'd like the video to appear.
  7. Click the Panopto Video (green icon) tool.

  8. Click the Upload tab, then drag your MP4 video to the upload window, or click to navigate and select your saved video.
    Click Upload tab, then drag video to window, or click to upload.
  9. The upload could take a few minutes depending on your connection speed.
  10. Once the upload is finished, click Insert at the bottom.

  11. Scroll to the bottom of the page and press SAVE.
    Click SAVE
  12. The video will take a while to process because it's long. Come back later to test the video to be sure it works.
