ZOOM - Add recording to CANVAS

This KB article covers the process of using Zoom to record video, and then uploading that recording into CANVAS. If you plan to record ahead of time, it's recommended that you use Panopto instead as it's less work for you, and provides a more accessible and editable video. See help on using Panoto video. This KB article is intended primarily for those who are recording live class lectures and need to post them in CANVAS for later viewing.

  2. Click Record

Add CANVAS video recording to CANVAS

Students have VANDAL accounts:

ATTENTION: This option requires the user to have standard UIdaho authentication access (i.e., a VANDAL email account). Many Keep Learning students don't have this access. If you have non-matriculating Keep Learning students, use the option below instead.

  1. You will receive a "Shareable" link via email after the meeting. You can also find the link here: https://uidaho.zoom.us/recording/

  2. Copy the Share Link

  3. Go to your CANVAS course, and edit the page were you need to add the Zoom recording, or add the link as a module item in your CANVAS course.

Students DO NOT have VANDAL accounts:

Whilte it's possible to simply add a link to your ZOOM recording in your CANVAS course, if you're using the UIDAHO instance of Zoom it will require UIdaho VANDAL account authentication to view the recording. Most Keep Learning students do not have this type of access. As a workaround, below is the process for downloading the video, then uploading to Panopto inside your Keep Learning course.

  1. ZOOM will email you a shareable ZOOM recording link when the recording is ready. You can also find the link here: https://uidaho.zoom.us/recording/
  2. Click the ZOOM Share link in the email to open the video
    Click share link
  3. Click the Download (3 files) link in the upper right corner
  4. It allows you to download three file types:
    • VTT = chat transcript
    • M4A = audio recording
    • MP4 = video recording <<< Click MP4 to download the video
Select MP4 Video file to download
