The Cisco AnyConnect client is available for mobile Android devices. This tutorial will walk you through installing and using the mobile AnyConnect client.
Note: The follow walkthrough was made using a Samsung Galaxy S III and may not apply to all phones. If you have a different manufacturer please visit the following site for instructions on how to connect using the AnyConnect client.
Installing the VPN Client
Step 1
Search for the AnyConnect app in Google Play, and install it. Once it is done installing, either open it from the store, your applications or the Successfully Installed notice in the Notification panel.
Search for the AnyConnect app in Google Play, install and open it.
Step 2
Accept the End User License Agreement (EULA) to continue.
Agree to the EULA.
Step 3
Select the "Connection" tab, then select "Add New VPN Connection..."
Open up the connections panel to add a new connection.
Step 4
You may choose to enter a description (if you don’t, it will be changed automatically later). Select Server Address and enter: vpn.uidaho.edu
Select OK to close the Server Address entry window, then Done to connect to the UI Virtual Private Network. There should now be a check next to the connection "vpn.uidaho.edu." Select the back button of your device or back button to the left of Advanced Preferences to return to the main screen of the Cisco Anyconnect client.
Make sure to enter the server address.
Step 5
To the right of AnyConnect VPN there is an on/off switch. Select it, and it will bring up a new window for you to enter in your NetID and password. Make sure the group is VandalVPN, which should be automatically selected. Click Connect when you have entered all the correct information. If you use Duo push, you should be prompted to approve. Otherwise, for more information on accessing the VPN with Duo, please see How do I use the VPN with Duo?
Once you have set up the connection, turn on the switch and enter your credentials.
Step 6
Once you have completed Duo authentication, accept the VPN connection request by tapping OK.
Agree to the connection request.
Step 7
If you left the name of the connection as vpn.uidaho.edu a message will come up telling you that it has been renamed to vpn.uidaho.edu (user). You will now be connected if the switch to the right of AnyConnect VPN is set to on and a key symbol appears in the tray at the top of your screen.
If you have problems connecting after carefully following all these steps, please contact ITS.
Your VPN will work, with the key icon indication on the top right of your device screen.
