How to submit a Video Assignment in Canvas

  1. Launch Panopto to record or upload your video

At the bottom of a CANVAS assignment page you will find the assignment submission editor.

Click the Panopto button to launch Panopto Video in the assignment submission editor.

  2. Select Panopto "Record" or "Upload"

If you already have a video file, click Upload, then browse to locate your video file (skip down to "Insert").

If you need to record your video, click the Record and then Launch Capture to access the Panopto Video Recorder.

Enter a name for this video recording. For example: Joe Vandal Week 2 Assessment

  3. Camera and Microphone Access

Click ALLOW on Panopto's request to use your Camera and Microphone.

  4. Select a Screen to Record

Click Screens and Apps if you want to include a PowerPoint slide or another webpage.

  5. Press Record

Ensure that you see the audio line bouncing at the bottom when you speak, then press RECORD.

  6. Finish or Edit?

When you're done recording, you can watch your video. If you're happy with it, close the video recording window to return to CANVAS with the option to insert your video.

If you want to edit your video, press EDIT.

  7. Edit Video

Panopto is a non-destructive editor, meaning that it will trim your video, but never actually deletes anything. Rather it dynamically rebuilds the timeline.

Click and drag to select the sections of the timeline you want to trim off.

    Press Apply to finish editing.

  8. INSERT VIDEO

    1. If you just recorded your video (see tips above), you'll see your video under the Record tab. If you upload an existing video file, click Upload. If your video had already been uploaded, you may find it under Choose.
    2. Press Insert to add your video to the assignment submission editor.
