The VandalCARE card provides a confidential platform for reporting concerns about the well-being or safety of a University of Idaho student, faculty, or staff member. It supports early intervention by connecting individuals to appropriate resources before a situation escalates.

Features:

  1. Submit a Care Report
    • Allows students, faculty, staff, or community members—to file a report if they are concerned about a Vandal’s mental health, physical well-being, safety, behavior, or other welfare-related issues.
    • Examples of Concerns to Report:
      • Significant changes in mood, behavior, or academic performance
      • Signs of distress, anxiety, depression, or withdrawal
      • Expressions of hopelessness or talk of self-harm
      • Concerning disruptive behavior in class, residence halls, or public areas
      • Personal safety threats, harassment, or potential violence
      • Physical health issues affecting well-being
      • Access the Care Report form through the card link.
      • Provide identifying information for the individual (if known) and a detailed description of the concern.
      • Submit your contact information (optional if anonymity is desired).
      • The report is reviewed by the VandalCARE team for appropriate follow-up.
  2. Personal Report Submission
    • Individuals can also submit a report about their own challenges or needs for assistance.
    • Common Reasons for a Personal Report:
      • Struggling with stress, anxiety, or depression
      • Experiencing financial hardship, food insecurity, or housing instability
      • Facing harassment, bullying, or interpersonal conflict
      • Needing academic support or help navigating university resources
    • Direct connection to resources such as counseling services, academic advising, financial assistance programs, and student support offices.

Additional Information:

  • All reports are handled with discretion. Information is shared only with appropriate university personnel on a need-to-know basis.
  • Emergency Protocol: If there is an immediate safety threat, individuals should call 911 before filing a Care Report.
  • Depending on the situation, the VandalCARE team may reach out to the reporter, the person of concern, or both, to coordinate support and resource connections.
  • The program is meant for non-emergency concerns where support and intervention may prevent escalation.
