This document is meant to be the cumulative knowledge on how to connect to the University network.

Connecting to eduroam

Please review the Acceptable Use Policy for eduroam wireless networks.

The eduroam service provides the full wireless feature-set intended for everyday use, and is available at all locations that are covered by the University of Idaho wireless network. This service is also available at eduroam-enabled institutions. For a full list please visit their site list.

Connecting to eduroam on Windows

 Select eduroam

Select eduroam from the networks listed under Wi-Fi.

 Enter Credentials

When prompted, log in using your full university email address and password.

Ex. joevandal@uidaho.edu, butch@wsu.edu, victor@pdx.edu

If this is the first time you are connecting to University of Idaho networks, you will need to accept the certificate notification.

Connecting to eduroam on macOS

 Select eduroam

Click on the Wifi Network icon in the top right-hand side of the screen and click on the eduroam network.

 A2uthenticate using Email

You will be prompted to enter your full email address and password. Enter these now and you will be connected to eduroam.

You may be prompted to accept a security certificate. If so, accept it and enter your computer’s log on password when prompted to add the certificate to your system.

You are now connected to eduroam and will have full access to the Internet.

Connecting to eduroam on iOS

1 Wi-Fi Settings

Navigate to your device's settings, then select "Wi-Fi".

2 Enter Credentials

When prompted, log in using your full university email address and password, then press "Join".

Ex. joevandal@uidaho.edu, butch@wsu.edu, victor@pdx.edu

If this is the first time you are connecting to University of Idaho networks, you mat need to accept the certificate notification.

3 Accept Certificate

You will be prompted to accept the network's certificate. Press "Trust" to accept the certificate and continue.

4 Connected

You have now successfully connected to the eduroam wireless network.

Connecting to eduroam on Android

1 Network & Internet

Open your devices Settings page, then select "Network & Internet".

2 Select Eduroam

Select the "Internet: Networks available" option to view the available WiFi networks, then select eduroam.

3 Complete Settings

Fill out the connections settings as seen below, then press "Connect".

When prompted, fill out the connections settings as seen below. Under "Identity" and "Password", enter your full university email address and password

Connecting to eduroam on Ubuntu Linux

1 Wi-Fi Settings

Navigate to your device's settings page, then select "Wi-Fi".

2 Select eduroam

Under Visible Networks, select eduroam.

3 Complete Settings

Fill out the network's authentication settings as pictured below, then select "Connect".

4 Connected

You have now successfully connected to the eduroam wireless network.

Connecting to AirVandalGuest

Overview

The University provides a public wireless network that guests of the campus can connect to without requiring a University of Idaho account. This guide aims to help guests connect to this Wi-Fi network.

 

Connecting to AirVandalGuest

Step 1

Select "AirVandalGuest" from the list of wifi networks.

This is a depiction of possible wi-fi networks for a computer to join.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Step 2

Enter the password "GoVandals!" or the iPSK if you have one (it's rare).

Step 3

Click Enter at the Welcome Screen

Step 4

Enter your name, email, and 10-digit phone number and send yourself either a text or email code.

Step 5

Enter the 6-digit code you received based on your email or text selection and you'll be connected.

 

Connecting to AirVandalGuest with an Event Code

Step 1

Select "AirVandalGuest" from the list of wifi access points.

Enter the password “GoVandals!

Step 3

Click “I have an event code” on the Welcome Screen in the lower right corner

Step 4

Enter your name, email, and 10-digit phone number and then click “Enter Event Code

Step 5

Enter the Event Code and you'll be connected.

 

Connecting using a Wired Device

Registering the device

In order to obtain wired internet access on your desktop or laptop machine, your computer will need to be registered with our network. This can be done by going to help.uidaho.edu/avsetup and filling out the form. Be sure to check the Wired device option. Once the device has been registered, it can take several minutes for the network to register the change.

Finding your MAC on Windows

Open the start menu and search for the Command Prompt by typing cmd into the search box, then click on the icon to launch the program.

Once the program launches, type in the command getmac -v and a list of all your network connections will appear. Find the entry titled Ethernet. The second entry under this heading will be called the physical address and be in the form XX-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX. This is your wired MAC address.

Open the command prompt and type getmac -v to find the MAC address.

Finding your MAC on macOS

Open up your System Preferences from the apple menu and click the Network icon. Select your Ethernet connection and click the advanced button, then click the Hardware tab on the new window to find your MAC address.
