iPad Setup

Summary

This KB article guides through different steps of setting up an iPad for the first time.

Body

Initial Setup

  1. Power on the iPad and complete the initial setup using the PIN: 1889.
  2. Walk through the setup manually and do not sign in with an Apple ID during initial configuration.

Apple ID Configuration

  1. Sign in to the App Store using the department or University-managed Apple ID (examples: dfa-ipads@uidaho.edu, ath-ipad@uidaho.edu, etc.).
  2. Passwords for departmental Apple IDs are stored in:
    • 1Password
    • KeePass
  3. If a departmental Apple ID does not already exist, create a new mail-enabled group account for the device/user as needed.

Naming Recommendation

Use the requestor’s NetID followed by -ipad, for example:

  • jdoe-ipad@uidaho.edu
