Wifi Connection Guide

This article provides the steps for connecting to the eduroam WiFi networks on campus; as well as information for Guests on how to connect to AirVandalGuest.

Connecting to AirVandalGuest

For further assistance connecting to campus WiFi, please contact the STC or your regional TSP, or submit a ticket.

 

Windows

1 Select Wireless Network

Click the Wireless Icon in the lower right-hand corner to see the local wireless networks.

Then, select either the eduroam wireless network and click 'Connect'

2 Enter Credentials

When prompted, enter your university email and password to be connected to the network.

3Connect to WiFi

Select "OK" to connect to WiFi and accept the certificate if prompted.

MacOS

1

 Open AirPort

Click on the AirPort icon in the top right-hand side of the screen and click on the eduroam network.

 

Select AirVandalGold

 

2 Enter Credentials

When prompted, enter your university username and password to be connected to the network.

You may be prompted to accept a security certificate. If so, click 'Accept' and enter your device's password when prompted.

Android

1 Open Settings

Open the settings page by swiping down from the top of your device and tapping the gear icon.

 

2 Open WiFi Networks

Locate and open the WiFi networks page, then select eduroam.

 

Make sure that wi-fi is turned on.

 

3 Enter Credentials/Settings

Enter the following settings:

EAP Method: PEAP

Phase 2 Authentication: MSCHAPV2

CA Certificate (if prompted): Most commonly, should be set to 'Do Not Validate'. If you are unable to connect, set to 'Use System Certificates'.

Domain: uidaho.edu

Identity: Your email (vand1234@vandals.uidaho.edu, jvandal@uidaho.edu)

Anonymous Identity: Leave blank

Password: Your Password 

 

EAP method=PEAP, Phase 2 auth=MSCHAPV2, CA Certificate=use system certificates, domain=uidaho.edu, identity=netid, password=your netid password

 

Once all of the options have been set correctly, you can press 'Connect' to be connected to the network.

iOS

1 Navigate to Settings

Navigate to the Settings application.

 

Open "Settings"

 

2 Connect to AirVandalGold or AirVandalHome

In the Settings menu, select 'Wi-Fi' and then click on eduroam.

 

Select the network AirVandalGold

 

3 Enter Credentials

When prompted, enter your university email and password to be connected to the network.

You may be prompted to accept a security certificate. If so, click 'Accept'.

 

Type in your UI credentials.

ChromeOS

1

 Navigate to WiFi

Click on the WiFi button on the bottom right of the screen

 Select WiFi

Click on eduroam

 

3 Fill in Information

Enter the following settings:

EAP Method: PEAP

Phase 2 authentication: MSCHAPv2

Server CA certificate: Do Not Validate

Identity: Your Vandal email address (vand1234@vandals.uidaho.edu)

Password: Your Password

Anonymous Identity: Leave Blank

Once all of the options have been set correctly, you can press 'Connect' to be connected to the network.

Linux

1

 Select Network

Click the network icon in the top-right corner, then select eduroam.



If you are not connected, the network icon should look like a quarter circle.

 

2 Select Authentication

You will be asked to authenticate your connection. Make sure your window matches the following settings:



The wi-fi network authentication required window should pop up.

 

Wi-Fi security: WPA & WPA2 Enterprise

Authentication: Protected EAP (PEAP)

Anonymous identity: Leave Empty

CA certificate: Use the Root-USERTrust.crt certificate file (Found Here)

PEAP version: Automatic

Inner authentication: MSCHAPv2

Username: Your NetID (ex. vand1234)

Password: Your password

Once all of the options have been set correctly, you can press 'Connect' to be connected to the network.

Connecting to AirVandalGuest

AirVandalGuest is intended for visitors and guests of the University of Idaho who do not have a student or employee account.

To connect:

  • Open your device's WiFi settings.
  • Select the network: AirVandalGuest
  • When prompted for a password, enter: GoVandals!
  • Open a web browser to complete the connection.
  • Follow the instructions listed to get access to the network.

AirVandalGuest is an open-access network. It is not intended for regular use by students, faculty, or staff.
