How do I setup Sophos SafeGuard on Windows?

This tutorial applies to the following operating system:

 Windows (BitLocker)

Overview:

Sophos Safeguard is a program which manages whole disk encryption on your device. Safeguard should install automatically, but encryption will not take place until a passphrase is set. These steps will help you complete the encryption process.

Step 1:

Once Safeguard has installed, a pop up should appear when you log in asking you to set a passphrase as shown in the screenshot below. You should receive this prompt each time you login until you provide a passphrase.

The passphrase should be unique, must be at least 8 characters in length, and should not be your name, phone number, current NetID password, or an easy to guess sequence.

You will be prompted to set a passphrase when you log in.

Step 2:

Select restart and encrypt once you have entered your passphrase.

If you receive an error, it is likely that your passphrase does not meet the requirements.

Step 3:

After the restart, you will need to use the passphrase to unlock the computer. 

This passphrase will be required every time the computer is turned on, or is rebooted.

Login to Windows and encryption will begin. To check progress, select the BitLocker icon.
