Microsoft Teams Information and FAQ

Microsoft Teams is a collaboration tool which works as a hub for all your Office 365 resources.  You are able to work on documents concurrently in a cloud based environment while communicating directly with your team using chat, audio or video. 

On University managed computers Teams maybe already installed.  If you do not see Teams installed open Sofware Center and select Teams to start the installation. On macOS, go to Self Service to start the installation.

Teams is also available directly online by going to https://teams.uidaho.edu and logging in with your University email address.  Once you are logged in click on the Teams icon.  

To have a Team created in Teams, contact your Local Support team for assistance by submitting a request at Software Request.

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Does everyone have Teams?      
    • Every University employee and student is licensed for Teams.  If you are unable to connect to Teams please contact your Local Support or the Student Technology Center for assistance.
  • How can I request a Team be created?
    • To have a Team created in Teams, contact your Local Support team for assistance by submitting a request at Software Request.
  • Is Teams installed on my computer?
    • Managed computers has the desktop version of Teams installed. If not
      • Windows: open Sofware Center and select Teams to start the installation.
      • macOS: go to Self Service to start the installation.

  • Can I delete messages? 
    • Teams has persistent posts so it does not remove messages automatically.  If a single post message needs to be removed it can be deleted by the author as long as the Team owners allow it.
    • Team chats can be deleted. Choose the chat to delet. Click on the ellipse (3 dots) to the right. Click on Delete chat at the bottom of the options.
  • Why can I not add channels or use other tools in a Team? 
    • Teams on creation typically disable some features for members so the Team owners could configure the Team first.  We recommend requesting to have channels created or other tools turned on as needed.
  • How can I can I restore a Channel I deleted (as an owner of the Team?
  • Where does a recorded meeting get stored? 
    •  Channel meetings are stored in a Recordings folder in the Files tab. Everyone who is a part of the channel will have permission to edit and view the recording.
    • All other meeting recordings are stored in the Recordings folder in the OneDrive directory of the person who started the recording.

  • What data security classification can be stored in Teams? 
    • You can store Moderate classified materials in Teams.  Be aware that due to the nature of Teams it is possible to share documents outside the University so you should always use caution with these features. 
  • Can I invite someone from outside the UI?
    • Teams allows you to invite individuals to participate in Teams even if they do not have University credentials.
