Student Media's Customizations to WordPress

Student Media's five WordPress implementations (Argonaut, Vandal Nation, Blot, KUOI 89.3 FM, and Sandbox) run a custom theme developed by the Student Affairs Technicians. This theme provides the front end display for the sites and some backend features to make things easier.

Theme Settings

This menu provides a way to override the brand and placeholder images. These images are embedded into the theme itself so use this only if you want to override the default. You can also set weather effects from this menu, like falling snow or rain. Note that weather effects can be hard on older and some mobile devices, so use it sparingly.

Advertising Settings

This menu provides a way to override all of the default costs for the various types of advertising Student Media provides. It also provides shortcodes that can be used to show large preset blocks of advertising text in posts and pages. Lastly it provides configuration options for our analytics setup. You should only mess with the analytics settings if you know what you're doing or have asked the Student Affairs Technicians.

Social Settings

This menu provides a way to setup URLs or IDs for all of the site's social media. These values are used to auto-populate social menus, links, and assist services like Facebook and Twitter in display content on their services.

Widgets

The theme provides a variety of widgets to serve various purposes that don't exist natively in WordPress, such as advertisements or streaming radio.
