Get Unplugged!
Information Technology Services (ITS) maintains a campus-wide wireless network, allowing all students, staff and faculty to connect to the Internet with wireless-equipped
laptops and mobile devices. The University wireless network is now available in the majority of core campus buildings. From classrooms to conference rooms, offices and study areas; this is a wireless campus!
What are the requirements for connecting to wireless?
Please read the following list of requirements to ensure your device meets the recommended requirements to work with the University wireless network. If your device meets the listed requirements, you are ready to register your system.
What are the different networks available for connection?
ITS currently broadcasts two networks: AirVandalGold and AirVandalGuest. These networks serve different functions as follows:
AirVandalGold: This is the main wireless network for the University of Idaho. AirVandalGold will allow users to connect to and browse the web without restrictions. It uses your NetID username and password to authenticate your computer to the network and all information on this network is encrypted.
AirVandalGuest: This is the guest network for the University of Idaho. It allows internet access and web browsing capability to visiting faculty, parents or students, but is throttled and only offers connection for one week. Permanent students, faculty and staff at the University of Idaho will need to be connected to AirVandalGold.
Connecting your devices
To connect your wireless device, simply connect to the AirVandalGold network and enter your NetID username and password to connect. Our network will automatically register the device to your account and allow you access. On older machines, manual registration of the device may be necessary – in these cases (eg. Windows xp) please use the AirVandalGold setup tool.
