Wireless

Get Unplugged!
Information Technology Services (ITS) maintains a campus-wide wireless network, allowing all students, staff and faculty to connect to the Internet with wireless-equipped
laptops. The University wireless network is now available in the majority of core campus buildings.

The wireless network makes it possible for laptop users to get connected to the Internet, check email, and use other University computing resources from practically anywhere, anytime. From classrooms to conference rooms, offices and study areas; this is a wireless campus!

How do I get setup for wireless?
There are several basic requirements which your wireless card or wireless equipped laptop must meet in order to work properly with the wireless network. Please read the
following list of requirements to ensure your card / laptop is compatible with the University wireless network. (you may also call 208-885-HELP (4357) to discuss getting connected)

Once you have a wireless card and/or laptop which meets the listed requirements, you may register your system online through the ‘Account Management‘ page or bring your card and your laptop to the ITS Help Desk in TLC 128.

I’m ready to connect. How do I get started?
ITS currently broadcasts two networks: AirVandalSetup and AirVandalGold. These networks serve different functions but both are required to allow you to connect to the wireless network on campus.

AirVandalSetup: This network is used to register your computer and is the first step in getting connected to the wireless network. This is the only purpose the network serves and cannot be used to browse the web or check email. Connecting to AirVandalSetup is short-term and temporary; you will only connect to this network when trying to register a new or previously unregistered computer to the wireless network.

AirVandalGold: This is the actual wireless network on campus. This is the network you will use to browse the web and check you email. It uses your myUIdaho username and password to authenticate your computer to the network and all information on this network is encrypted.

To Get Connected: Select your operating system below to get started with registering your computer on the AirVandalSetup network:

AirVandalGold Setup Utility
If you have a computer with a Windows operating system, you may alternatively download the AirVandalGold Setup Utility to complete the setup process. Please note, however, that this tool will only work with Windows operating systems. ITS has provided complete instructions to walk you through the process of using the setup utility for the following systems:
