To setup a printer MAC record you must have access to the
Network Management System (NMS). To request access to NMS
please email the Help Desk. This is only provided on an as
needed basis to sysads. If you need a printer setup on the
UI network, please send a request by e-mail to the Help Desk
(helpdesk@uidaho.edu).

- Get the MAC address from the printer. Make sure
this is correct.
- Follow the printer
naming guidelines
and be sure to use the correct prefix.
- Select the 'printer.uidaho.edu' domain. All
printers on campus must be placed in this domain.
- Select the appropriate printer network. There are
4 printer networks with associated VLANs, B56(VLAN 344)
B57(VLAN 444) B58(VLAN 644) and B59(VLAN 844). To determine
which printer network to use, first check which VLAN is
associated with the port. If the port does not have a X44
printer VLAN listed please contact the Help Desk to have one
trunked to it.
- The IP address type for the printer networks is 'Normal'
- Select either 'HP Printer' or 'Non-HP Printer' for the
Hardware Platform.
- Operating system should be set to 'Proprietary' or
'Print Device'. ('Print Device' will be added in the
future.)
- Comments should always include the printer Brand/Model
and the name of the person responsible for the printer.
- Contacts must include the responsible person but can
also include the departments sysad or other groups that work
on the printer. (you can add multiple users as long as
they are separated by a comma.)
